Mosaic of semi-dry to dry calcareous grasslands; laser and poplar grasslands

The grasslands are exceptionally lush and diverse in terms of flora, a mosaic that represents one of the most original and beautiful types of vegetation in the region, particularly between May and July, when there is a succession of flowering periods. This richness is due to a combination of factors: the slopes are steep, protected from the rainy westerly winds and benefit from maximum sunshine, and are therefore warmer and drier than the regional average. Some of the soils are deep and therefore have water reserves. This is due to the presence of several species from the southern Alps, which find their last, most northerly stronghold on these sunny slopes. But also due to the presence of hay meadows or pastures created by man, now little used or no longer used.
